After leaving school at sixteen began working at Sheffield University in Labs. Became Chief Technician in Pharmacology & Therapeutics Dept at Hallamshie Hosp. Also Union Branch Sec for 6 years.
Elected to Sheffield City Council in 1973 Held positions of Chair of Social Services, Deputy Leader, Chair of Leisure, Chair of Regeneration and Lord Mayor of Sheffield. I am the person half of Sheffield think wonderful for bringing the World Student Games and a massive investment in Sport and Culture to Sheffield creating jobs and a new economy and the other half thinking I am the person responsible for wasting millions of pounds of Rate payers money.

I have four children and eight
grandchildren. Unfortunately lost my wife through cancer in July 2000 after
forty years marriage. Currently still a member of Sheffield City Council
and Chair the Brightside/Shirgeen Area Panel. I am also Chair of the Yorkshire
Sports Board and Vice Chair of The English Sports Forum.
In February I am to attempt to
cycle across Equador and the Andes to raise money for Macmillan --- Successfully
competed the most gruelling event in my life, however a journey of a lifetime
and I raised almost £10,000
