Educated 1949 to 1957 at City Grammar, Sheffield.
Trained at Shoreditch College as a Craft Teacher. Started teaching at Newfield School in Sheffield. Later at William Rhodes School, Chesterfield. Final years of teaching were at Highfields School, Matlock.
