The young officer who died doing the most dangerous job in the world.
The first live bomb Captain Ronald Wilkinson faced cost him his life. He was hauling it from a building in Birmingham when it exploded in his face. Terribly wounded, the young army officer was rushed to hospital, where he put up a tremendous struggle until his physical resources finally ran out.
He was just 34 and tough,
a hard foraging forward in the corps rugby team.
