It was with great sadness that we learnt during the Christmas holidays of the death of Mrs. Lyons. Illness had compelled her to retire at the beginning of the summer term. We little thought then, however, that this devoted teacher who had served the City Grammar School for so many years would never visit us again.
Many pupils of this school, both past and present, will remember her great kindness and patience. She demanded high standards, but was always prepared to devote time and energy to those who found French difficult.
The City Grammar School owes a great debt to Mrs Lyons and we extend to her husband, Dr Lyons, of Sheffield University, our deepest sympathy.
